Project Summary

Dustline Detective was a midterm project for the course “Shared Minds,” it is an immersive, multiplayer interactive game designed for the web. The game focuses on real-time communication between two players, a detective and an assistant. Each player is in different in-game locations: the Detective on a moving train and the Assistant in an office. They must work together to solve puzzles, share information, and defuse the bomb. This project explores the concept of cold media, emphasizing incomplete information and requiring interaction and communication between participants to achieve a shared goal.

Core Gameplay Mechanics

- Two-Player Cooperative Experience: One player assumes the role of the Detective, while the other takes on the role of the Assistant. Both have unique sets of information required to solve a series of puzzles.
- Separate Environments: The Detective and Assistant are in separate virtual locations (train and office). Players cannot see each other's screens, requiring verbal communication to progress.
- Puzzle Solving: The game features a variety of puzzles that require exchanging information. Clues are distributed between the Detective and the Assistant, encouraging active listening and clear instruction.
- Real-Time Voice Communication: The game uses WebRTC for real-time peer-to-peer audio communication, simulating a walkie-talkie experience.
